Promoting Nutrition & Activity

Citizens around our state are beginning to seek solutions to the problems and costs associated with obesity. Today, two out of three Wisconsin adults are overweight or obese. Doctors are noting increased rates of diseases that used to only be seen in adults like Type-II diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease among Wisconsin's schoolchildren. This situation did not happen overnight and must be addressed with a comprehensive approach.

Wisconsin's obesity problem costs individuals, businesses, and taxpayers. These costs are likely to increase dramatically over the next decade. Significant healthcare savings could be realized with swift actions to emphasize prevention.

Many low cost solutions to address obesity exist. These solutions will help to foster a lifetime of healthy practices among our youth. By implementing programs that provide healthy, nutritious school lunches and encourage a more active learning environment we can combat chronic diseases and help to save lives and money.

We stand ready to work with local networks of concerned citizens seeking to ensure that future generations of Wisconsinites are not forced to address the crushing costs associated with obesity.
